Scene Work

Almost, Maine March 2021
By John Cariani
For this scene I was assigned the scene "Seeing the Thing" from Almost, Maine. My concept for directing this scene was based around the main description that John Cariani gives in the beginning of this script, saying that the people from Almost are real, honest folks. With these two characters, we worked to establish who they are as themselves and who they are in different social settings in order to develop their personal relationship and where it is going. They are used to habit and routine but this scene totally disrupts that.
Nice Girl April-May 2021
By Melissa Ross
For this scene I chose to direct Act 2 Scene 5 of the play Nice Girl. My central concept for directing this scene was to center it around human happiness and what we believe we deserve but also how we go about finding it for ourselves.
This quote directly inspired my take on this scene:
"A play about the tragedy and joy of figuring out who you are and letting go of who you were supposed to be.”– Dramatists Play Service Description
